Allardyce wants "one quality player" this January.
What position would you be going for if you were him?

I'd go for a central midfielder.

Central defender who can also play left back if needs be.

I'd love to see that Ukranian fella here, and I'd still like Jordan RHODES, and yes I know that Sakho and Valencia have done ok.

We're signing the canadian central defender Henry if a work permit goes through, so I doubt we'll be looking for anyone who'd be first team in central defence.

A centre half sticks out like a sore thumb, but who realistically is available?

I see that we've been linked with a Valencia midfielder and Konoplyanka is still available after shunning a new deal.

I think our best bit of business would be getting Song if permanently!

Konoplyanka has been mentioned a couple of times, but he's a winger and would't really fit the way we play

Properly decent centre defender please. Maybe a left back on loan to push/ cover Cresswell.

Re: Allardyce wants "one quality player" this January.
Egg - Not really a winger, a poor man's Hazard really but he will improve the squad starting 11 in my opinion.

From what I've seen of him, he looks class. Athletico Madrid are sniffing to according to rumours.

Konoployenka is too good to turn down

Can play in the no 10 role and ship Zarate out on loan

Too many good players is not a bad thing.....

But centre back would be priority......i've said before on here Johnny evans is one i'd like us to look at

bit harsh to bring someone in to replace Downing?

Although from his wiki - "His main position is left-sided winger."

Egg - But surely you would set up differently (if need be) to accomodate a player like him.? He is lethall and would without a doubt make us a better side.

Re: Allardyce wants "one quality player" this January.
Not a replacement Eggy but competiton

He can play anywhere of the front 3 attacking positions behind the striker, take him down a tour of east ham and it will be home from home for him

Hearney 1:21 Mon Dec 22
Re: Allardyce wants "one quality player" this January.
He's early/mid 20's, so a signing for the future too.

Downing has been sensational this year and can't be dropped but he's 30 odd now.

Id imagine he's just talking about tying down Carlton for another couple of years.

Petr Cech or Asmir Begovic

Bit harsh on Adrian, but the rest of the squad looks good all round to me, and a proper top class keeper would give us a stronger look.

Could argue about a centre back, but there really doesn't seem to be many great ones out there. When you think Mangala & Lovren cost about £50mil between them, you know it's a bad market for that position. I'd have Ginge over the pair of them.

Re: Allardyce wants "one quality player" this January.
I am not sure why people say central midfield, we have a few decent players and prospects that are not getting time there at the moment.

I make the assumption that Reid is leaving (though probably not in the window) and Collins has done very well but is getting older so a really good centre back. The problem is that is what a lot of the top teams with a lot of money are looking for as well.

Henry is a prospect if that. Really hope I am wrong.

Song or Jenkinson would be nice

Would be great but I can't see him coming in to sit on the bench, he had major sides ineterested in him in the summer

Re: Allardyce wants "one quality player" this January.
I don't really understand this Henry interest.... surely he's not going to be ready for first team football and we have lots of good prospects at CB.... bit of a kick in the teeth for them?!

I reckon we will get this Fuego DM in who can also cover at CB during the first week of January .... but only if Song is named in the Cameroon squad. Fuego is getting on (will be 31 soon) but would be a very useful squad player and his CB ability will provide cover until Burke and Henry(?) are ready... and relatively cheap (3-4m).

Re: Allardyce wants "one quality player" this January.
Im sure the henry signing is one for the future rather than an immediate replacement. Which sort of rankles really as from the few displays ive seen, Burke looks class and deserves a run.
